The rise of coding assessments

Coding assessments have really transformed the hiring landscape lately. I’ve seen companies increasingly use platforms like HackerRank or CodeSignal to filter candidates based on specific tech stacks. It’s interesting to consider how these tools affect our perception of a coder’s actual abilities versus just their theoretical knowledge.

I totally get what you mean about coding assessments. , I’ve seen candidates get filtered out because they didn’t nail a HackerRank challenge, even though they could write amazing production code. It’s wild how much weight these tests get, but sometimes they miss the real skills that matter.

Coding assessments can be a double-edged sword. I remember a candidate who struggled on a HackerRank test but showcased incredible problem-solving skills in an interview — definitely didn’t reflect their true potential. It’s frustrating because these tools often focus on specific formats rather than real-world application.
