When recruiters turn into therapists

I had an interesting call with a candidate last week who went on a 20-minute tangent about their family issues instead of discussing their qualifications… It’s amazing how sometimes our role as recruiters turns into more of a counseling session, especially when confidentiality is at stake — most of that’s off the record,! Anyone else find themselves in similar situations?

Isn’t it wild how our job can turn into a therapy session? Sometimes I feel like I should start charging for both career advice and life coaching — anyone got a good rate for that? Have you found it helps the candidate open up more?
